Few local memorials exemplify Saratoga Springs like the Spirit of Life statue in Congress Park — a bronze figure of a winged woman by American sculptor Daniel Chester French. Katrina Trask, philanthropist and Yaddo founder, commissioned the iconic memorial in 1913 in honor of her late husband Spencer Trask and his efforts to preserve Saratoga’s natural mineral springs. On Thursday, Oct. 5 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Canfield Casino in historic Congress Park, you can celebrate Trask’s cultural legacy at the TRASK Art Show & Sale, a benefit for the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation featuring hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, live music and art for sale by local artists inspired by the history, people, landscape, preservation and spirit of Saratoga Springs. The benefit helps fund historic preservation and restoration projects like the one spearheaded by the Preservation Foundation in recent years to restore the Spirit of Life statue to its original glory.
